DESCRIPTION:Lowcountry Autism Foundation presents\, “Parent’s Afternoon Out” a 2.5-hour respite offered monthly to parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.  Our new home for this program is We Rock the Spectrum Gym in Summerville.  Parents may enjoy a 2.5 hour break\, where they may go out on a much needed date or spend quality time with the other siblings. This event is only open to children ages 3 to 12 who are diagnosed with ASD.  We do not accept neurotypical siblings.  Please be sure to pack a bag of any needed items such as diapers\, wipes\, change of clothes\, soothing toy\, etc… Please let us know of any allergies and/or special medical needs. SUMMARY:Winter 2026 Teen Group Begins (Ages 13-15)
DESCRIPTION:The next Teen Group will begin Tuesday January 13th and continue to March 3rd. The group will meet each Tuesday from 4:00PM – 5:00PM at the West Ashley Clinic on Tobias Gadson Blvd. \nA Project Rex intake for teens is required prior to group participation.  To request an initial phone screening\, complete the intake request form here. Once the intake is complete\, call the West Ashley clinic at 843-792-0052 to confirm attendance. \nThis group’s curriculum will focus on social conversations: introductions\, good listening\, finding common interests\, and two-way conversation. \nWondering about admissions criteria? For Teen Group … \n\nTeens and parents must be able to commit to the full 8-week program\nNote that this Group has more opportunities for movement based activities\, but teens must be verbal and able to sit and listen to a lesson for periods of approximately 15 minutes at a time\nA parent or parent representative must be present at either group\nTeens are encouraged to complete computer-based homework to practice the skills at home\n\nAlso note that with parent permission\, video modeling will be used in group as a learning tool; participant role plays will be videotaped\, shown to participants\, and shared with parents as well. \n  \nPlease plan to arrive 15 minutes early for sign in and registration. \nInterested patients and family must commit to being able to attend each group session. We can no longer allow patients and family members to join the group after the first week. We ask if you know you cannot commit to the full 8 week series to instead consider attending a future round of the program.
